Week # 6 Different Views and angles- Still life studies
Hi everyone,
Here’s the next idea for this week (and of course feel free to continue with last assignments, or paint what you wish)
Paint at least 6 variations with the same two fruits or vegetables.
Leave one whole and the other cut in half. Keep your objects quite
large on the page - roughly half of the surface area of your paper.
Think about your format of paper (horizontal, vertical, or square). Also
if you are looking down or across at your objects. You could raise them
up on a stack of books, for instance. You could paint them different
places in your house - with different light and shadows. Perhaps backlit
by a window, or lit from above. Also, think about the values in your painting and if it helps, do some thumbnail drawings to figure out which views you want to paint, like you did last week.
I’ve photographed examples - but don’t paint from my photos - this is just to show you what I was thinking.
Have fun!
Susan & Janet
Virginia Naughton painted these three variations of a tomato and onions. Lovely to see these variations!
Janet Filemyr did these beautiful drawings focusing on the variations of views of apples. I love how she paid special attention to the shadows in these!
Artist Joan Rappaport created these lovely watercolors. Says she: "I am sending along 2 pictures of paintings I completed based on the prompt from Week #6. I couldn't do 6 views because my fruit went bad as you can see from Painting #2 which shows the beginning of the end. I'll have to wait for my next food delivery. HaHa!!"
Wonderful attention to shading and light!
